Born in Astrakhan City, Nikolai Baskakov first studied at the Leningrad Institute with Boris Fogel and Alexander Zaytsev. A leading member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists, Baskakov is regarded as one of the foremost representatives of the Leningrad School of Painting. He is known primarily for genre and historical scenes painted in a vivid, Impressionist style. Baskakov’s work is held in museums throughout Russia including the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. We are pleased to offer a major genre painting by this important Russian artist.
