GIUSEPPE GAMBINO

(Italian, 1928-1997)

ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA

Oil on Canvas

27 x 31 Inches

Signed Lower Left

Framed by Munn

In the course of a long and successful career, Giuseppe Gambino was the recipient of many medals and prizes including the prestigious Venice Biennale (1956), the Quadrenniale d’Arte, (Rome, 1959) and the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa (Venice). Gambino also won first prizes at the Palazzo Ducale (Mantua, Italy) and the Galeria Estence (Modena, Italy). In addition to his Italian exhibitions, Gambino exhibited widely throughout Europe and the United States and his work may be found in numerous public and private collections. He was also a noted theatrical set and costume designer. Gambino’s works have been described as possessing a ‘harmonic musicality’ and usually feature an explosion of colors and shapes contained in a subtly-disciplined framework. We are pleased to offer this radiant example of the artist’s work which happily retains the original and substantial, 24-carat gold-leafed frame by Munn.
