LUCIEN PHILLIPE MORETTI
(Italian, born 1922)
THE YOUNG ARCHAEOLOGIST
(The Count of St. Germain)
Oil on Canvas
28.5 x 36 Inches
Signed Lower Right
Framed by Richard Tobey
An outstanding painting by this lyrical Modernist whose work is represented in the permanent collections of many major museums. Moretti is known best for his figural works, which always convey the humor and vivacity of his subjects. In this charming study, Moretti also communicates the intelligence and enthusiasm of the young man as he leans forward to share with us the object of his research. Both the mural behind him and the book he offers us reference the pre-historic cave paintings of Lascaux. The coin he holds shows the head of Alexander the Great. Lucien Moretti is listed in all art references and his work is highly sought after at auction.
