Henri Eugene Callot was born in 1875 in La Rochelle and first studied in the ateliers of Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury. From 1898, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français where he was awarded a gold medal in 1920 and elected a member of the Salon. He was subsequently made a knight of the Legion of Honor for his services to art. This delicate and luminous harbor scene dates from circa 1925 and shows Callot’s talent both for dramatic composition and atmospheric detail.
