FREDERICK PARK FAIRER
(English, born 1910)
TWO TERRIERS ON A CUSHION
Oil on Canvas
20 1/8 x 24 1/8 Inches
Signed Lower Left, 'F. P. Fairer'
Framed in a 24 karat, Gilt-Gesso frame by Richard Tobey & Sons
In this informal and charming portrait, the artist achieves dramatic effect by placing both terriers together at the center of the work and by focusing their gaze on the viewer who is thus drawn directly into the painting. An intuitive melding of a strong yet subtle palette reinforces the drama of this presentation while highlighting the artist's empathy with his subjects. Born in England in 1910, Frederick Park Fairer exhibited widely during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Fairer’s paintings are sought after at auction and he is well-listed in art-reference works.
