ERIK MOGENS CHRISTIAN VANTORE

(Danish, 1895-1977)

A SUMMER'S DAY AT THE LAKE

Oil on Canvas

28 x 32 Inches

Signed Lower Left

Son of the notable artist Hans Christian Hansen, Erik Mogens Vantore was born in Copenhagen in 1895. He first studied at Copenhagen’s Charlottenberg Art Academy, to which he was admitted at the unusually young age of 14. He furthered his studies in Paris where he was influenced by the Post-Impressionists, particularly by Gauguin and the Nabis. Returning to Denmark, he continued to visit and exhibit in Paris while exhibiting annually at Copenhagen’s Charlottenberg Museum. Vantore achieved both academic and commercial success and his paintings may be found in the permanent collections of museums worldwide. His work is characterized by intuitive- sometimes frenzied- brushwork, saturated colors- often of primary hue- and novel perspectives that impart freshness and vivacity to his carefully observed and composed works. We are pleased to offer a charming post-impressionist figural landscape by this prominent European modernist.
