DIMANCHE À JOINVILLE
Oil on Canvas
19 5/8 x 39 3/8 Inches
Signed Lower Right 'C. Kluge'
Known as ‘the Poet of Paris’ for his decades spent recording his love affair with the City of Lights, Constantin Kluge was, in fact, born in Riga in Latvia. He spent his youth in Manchuria and his adolescence in Shanghai, where for ten years he studied and painted with the Chinese masters. From this rigorous training he derives his intuitive sense of composition and his economy of line. The recipient of both the silver and gold medals of the Salon des Artistes Francais, Kluge was honored as a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur by President Mitterrand for his services to art. Kluge’s work may be found in the permanent collections of museums worldwide including the Musee D’Orsay and the Musee d’Art Moderne in Paris. We are pleased to offer this exceptional artist’s view of a peaceful Sunday afternoon in the Parisian suburb of Joinville. In this lyrical and symphonic composition, Kluge has perfectly captured the quiet and reflective essence of these Parisian river pastimes.
