Born in Germany in 1872, Julius Moessel studied first in Nurnburg and later at the Munich Art Academy under the landscape painter Richard Von Seitz. After moving to the United States, he settled in Chicago and began a successful and influential career as a painter, muralist and architect. Moessel exhibited frequently at the most prestigious galleries including the Art Institute of Chicago, The Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington D.C. Moessel’s work is held in the permanent collections of major art museums in both Germany and the United States and is highly sought-after at auction..
