Signed and Dated Lower Right “Niels Nielsen 48”

Primarily a naturalistic landscape painter, Niels Nielsen studied both in Copenhagen and, later, in Paris. He painted the environs of his two residences in Roskilde Fjord near Frederiksund and at Skagen and favored a simple and lyrical style that displayed an intuitive sense of the changing tones of the seasons. He has also painted still-lives and figural works which are notable for their monumental compositional style. Nielsen also worked as a printmaker and graphic artist. He exhibited widely and with success including at various Parisian Salons (1938, 1948, 1951) and in Norway (1946). Nielsen’s work is also held in the permanent collection of the Silkeborg Kunstmuseum in Denmark. We are pleased to offer this charming and intimate view of domestic tranquility.
