Signed and Dated Lower Left ‘Viggo Pedersen 1912’

Viggo Pedersen began his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and initially painted in Denmark's formal academic tradition. Moving to Paris in the 1880s, he fell increasingly under the influence of the prevailing Impressionist aesthetic and evolved a unique, atmospheric style that combined elements of both movements. Exhibiting with success in France, Pedersen received an honorable mention at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1889. In 1900, he was awarded a medal and an honorable mention at the Exposition Universelle. Particularly sought after are Pedersen's light-suffused, panoramic landscapes, which may be found in the permanent collections of state museums throughout Europe. We are pleased to offer this charming example from Pedersen’s later period which shows the artist’s harmonious palette and intuitive compositional skill.
