This noted Scottish landscape painter began his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy and first exhibited in London in 1872. He continued to exhibit at the Royal Academy and the Royal Scottish Academy for many years. He was also an excellent watercolorist and a member of the Royal Scottish Watercolour Society. Reid was strongly influenced by the Dutch School and favored a soft palette and gently graduated color tonalities. This fine example of his work exemplifies both his delicate hand and his intuitive sense of compositional balance together with a mastery of anatomy and posture.
