Born in Philadelphia, Earle Horter began his artistic career as a stock certificate engraver. After moving to New York City in 1903, He became known for his realistic etchings and aquatints of urban scenes and his modernist, cubism-inspired illustrative work. Horter exhibited widely and with success at major museums and galleries nationwide including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, where he was the recipient of numerous medals and awards. He was also invited to exhibit and received a medal at the Pan-Pacific Exhibition of 1915. We are pleased to offer a sensitive and lyrical nude study by this notable American Modernist.
