Edward Pritchard exhibited widely and with success, including at London’s Royal Academy (1852-1863) and the British Institute (from 1852). Known primarily as a marine and landscape painter, his titles at the Royal Academy include Winter in Belgium (1852) and Portland Island From the Beach at Sandsfoot Castle, Portland Bay (1863). Pritchard lived in Bristol and two of his marine paintings are held in the permanent collection of the Bristol Museum of Art. We are pleased to offer an early and important winter scene by this notable nineteenth-century British landscape painter.
