Son of the notable artist Hans Christian Hansen, Erik Mogens Vantore was born in Copenhagen in 1895. He first studied at Copenhagen’s Charlottenberg Art Academy, to which he was admitted at the unusually young age of 14. Vantore furthered his studies in Paris where he was influenced by the Post-Impressionists, particularly by Gauguin and the Nabis. After his return to Denmark, he continued to exhibit successfully in Paris while exhibiting annually at Copenhagen’s Charlottenberg Museum. Vantore achieved both academic and commercial success in his lifetime and his paintings may be found in the permanent collections of museums worldwide. His style is characterized by bravura brushwork, a saturated palette, innovative perspective and a compositional structure that impart freshness and vivacity to his carefully-observed subjects. We are pleased to offer a fresh and breezy ocean landscape with still-life.
