Albert Verhoesen first studied under the Dutch landscape painter, Bruno Van Straaten, and later under Barend Cornelis Koekoeck from whom he derived his detailed understanding of animal anatomy. In 1853, Verhoesen settled in Utrecht where he maintained a studio for over 50 years. He exhibited widely and with success throughout Europe and his work may be found in the permanent collections of numerous national museums including Holland’s Haarlem and Utrecht Museums. Verhoesen favored working in a small scale and is known primarily for his animal and landscape subjects. He was also a noted etcher and engraver. We are pleased to offer a fine and characteristically small work by this notable Dutch artist.
