Born to an art-loving family with a strong academic tradition, I was fortunate to grow up in the presence of Post-Impressionist and Old Master paintings. After two years working with Heath Fine Art in London, I spent ten years studying music, both at the Grove School in Los Angeles and at West Berlin's Hochschule. Returning to art-dealing in 1982, I continued my education at London's Christie's Fine Arts, graduating in 1986. I then served as head of the Fine Arts department of a West Coast auction house for three years before opening my own gallery in 1989.
Every work of art represented is thoroughly researched before being offered for sale. Comprehensive artist biographies and bibliographies are compiled, together with detailed condition reports and all available information on provenance. If conservation or restoration is required, we use methods consistent with current archival standards. If a frame is called for, it may be custom-made by hand or supplied from our own substantial stock of vintage frames.
While I am proud of long-standing relationships with both private and institutional collectors, it is always refreshing to work with a new client. New or old, however, all these relationships are essentially collaborative with the acquisition of fine art seen as both a journey and destination.
I am always happy to talk about a particular painting or area of interest. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call.
