Born to an art-loving family with a strong academic tradition, I was fortunate to grow up in the presence of Post-Impressionist and Old Master paintings. After two years working with Heath Fine Art in London, I spent ten years studying music, both at the Grove School in Los Angeles and at West Berlin's Hochschule. Returning to art-dealing in 1982, I continued my education at London's Christie's Fine Arts, graduating in 1986. I then served for three years as head of the Fine Arts department of a West Coast auction house before opening my own gallery in 1989.
An elected member of the Antiques Council, I thoroughly research every work of art before it is offered for sale. Comprehensive artist biographies and bibliographies are compiled, together with detailed condition reports and all available information on provenance. If conservation or restoration is required, all methods used are consistent with current archival standards. If a frame is needed, it will be supplied from our own stock of period frames or may be custom-made by hand.
While I am proud of long-standing relationships with both private and institutional collectors, it is always refreshing to work with a new client. New or old, however, these client relationships are essentially collaborative and allow for the acquisition of fine art to be experienced as both journey and destination.
I am always happy to talk about a particular painting or area of interest. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
