This notable painter and graphic artist was the eldest daughter of the Danish Modernists Carl-Henning Pedersen and Else Alfelt, with whom she studied from an early age. Like her parents, Vibeke Alfelt was deeply involved with the Danish avant-garde COBRA movement and she also participated in the decoration of Bregnerødhytten (Cobra Ceiling) in 1949. Throughout her career, the figure of the horse took on an increasingly important symbolic importance and became the lyrical leitmotif which she employed as a formal means to promote the poetic unity of her oevre. Alfelt traveled abroad frequently to study including to Italy, Germany, France and elsewhere in Europe. She exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards throughout her career, including at the Danish Royal Academy's Charlottenborg Art Gallery. Vibeke Alfelt has works in public state and private collections, including at Sophienholm.
