This notable Danish Post-Impressionist first studied with  Marie Sandholt and Astrid Holm at the Kunst Akademie and, later, at the Copenhagen School of Graphics (1929-31). Christensen traveled widely from an early age, including to Germany and Austria, (1913-14); Paris, (1917-23) and Budapest and Vienna (1934). In 1935, Christensen was awarded the Michaelsen Scholarship which enabled her to travel repeatedly to Paris during the late 1930's.  Largely self-taught, Christensen, like her friend, the poet Rilke, followed a solitary artistic path in which her imagery was characterized by aesthetic sensuality, delicate tact, spirited boldness and expressive force. We are pleased to offer this powerful and lyrical work dating to the artist's early Paris period.
