PINK AND RED CARNATIONS

Oil on Canvas

18 x 12¾ Inches

Signed Lower Right, "E. Damois"

Framed Dimensions: 26 x 20 Inches

A closely-observed and delicately realized, oil still-life of pink and red carnations shown informally arranged in a crystal stem-glass vase and contrasted against a toned umber background. An attractive and period work that happily retains its original, carved gilt-wood and gesso frame.

Ernest Emile Damois exhibited with success in Paris, both at the Salon des Indépendants from 1928, and at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1931. The artist specialized in still-lives and paintings of animals and is listed in Benezit's definitive dictionary of artists.
