Charles Amable Lenoir studied at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris and won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1886. He won many medals at the Salon des Artistes Francaises and was made a Companion of The Legion of Honour for his services to art. This spectacular painting of a country girl on the thresh-hold of womanhood is one of his masterpieces. Lenoir is well listed in all art references and his work is represented in the permanent collections of museums throughout the world.
