Introduction to McNaught Fine Art
Born to an art-collecting family with a
strong academic tradition, I was fortunate
to grow up in the presence of both Old Master
and Post-Impressionist paintings. After
working with Bryan Heath Fine Art in London, I spent ten years studying music, including at the Grove School of Music in Los Angeles and at Berlin's Hochschule. Returning to art dealing in 1982, I continued my education in London at
Christie’s Fine Arts, graduating in 1986. For three years, I served as the head of the Fine Arts Department of Auction Galleries in Monterey, California before opening my own gallery in 1989.
Every work of art that I represent is thoroughly researched before being offered for sale. A comprehensive artist biography and bibliography is compiled, together with all available information on provenance. A detailed condition report is also prepared. When conservation is required, all methods employed are consistent with current museum archival practice. Where a new frame is called for, it is custom-made by hand.
While I am proud of long-standing relationships with both private and institutional clients, it is always gratifying to begin working with a new collector. New or old, however, all these relationships are essentially collaborative. The acquisition of fine art is both a journey and a destination. As I work with each individual collector, I seek those works that will both enhance their collection and enrich their experience of collecting.
My Summerland viewing room is open to the public every day from 10am to 5pm. Please visit our Upcoming Shows page to view our schedule of exhibitions at fine charity antiques shows nationwide, and, if I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me personally.
