Lajos first studied at the Budapest College of Fine Arts and, subsequently, at the Szolnok Colony of Artists with Adolf Fényes and Lajos Szlányi. He then taught drawing before returning to Budapest in 1918. He later studied in Italy where he was exposed to the currents of European Modernism. In addition to painting in oil and watercolor, Lajos also a graphic artist and a published writer and, beginning in 1910, he exhibited widely and with success, including at at the National Salon and the Kunsthalle. He was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards and, later in his career, was appointed director of the National Association of Hungarian Artists. We are pleased to offer this elegant floral still life with its carefully observed Satsuma vase.
