Thaddeus Emory Leland studied at the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan and, subsequently, at Stanford University. He established his studio on the Monterey Peninsula and became particularly known for his light-filled Impressionist-style studies of horses and his animated figural works from the world of horse-racing. He divided his time between California and Peru where he also painted exotic landscapes. We are pleased to offer this breezy equestrian scene showing Arabian race-horses being led through an enclosure in the shade of a spreading chestnut tree.
