Loui Michael first studied with Albert Elmstedt before attending the Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen (1957-60) where he studied under Soren Nielsen. The recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, including the 1984 San Cataldo scholarship from the State Art Foundation, he traveled and studied widely in Europe, including on extended painting trips to Greece and Turkey (1959), Italy (1982) and, from 1985 onwards, to the South of France.
The recipient of numerous medals and juried awards, Michael exhibited internationally with success, including at the Copenhagen Salon d'Automne (1960), the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, the Parc Floral de Paris, 1971; the Venice Biennial (1971); the Grand Palais, Paris, (1973) among others. The artist is listed in all relevant art reference works including Benezit's Dictionary of Artists.
