Alfred Olsen first studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen under Jensen-Egeberg from 1882 to 1888. During this period, he developed his specialization for marine seascapes with a particular emphasis on the effects of light. Olsen continued his studies throughout Europe and North Aftrca where he was influenced French Romantics and the Orientalists. Although Olsen made his home in Denmark and exhibited at the Charlotten berg for forty-three years, he also exhibited internationally with success and was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards including Chicago (1893) and Lübeck (1895). We are pleased to offer a delicate evening view of this, the loveliest of cities.
