OSCAR RICCIARDI

(Italian, 1864-1935)

VIEW OF SORRENTO

Oil on Canvas

24 x 16 Inches

Signed and Inscribed Lower Right ‘Ricciardi / Napoli’

Born in Naples in 1864, Ricciardi began his studies under the notable Italian landscape and figural painter, Bernardo Celantano to whom he was related on his mother’s side. Ricciardi later studied with the genre painter, Domenico Morelli, from whom he derived a lively and animated style and his preference for a saturated palette. Ricciardi exhibited widely and with success throughout Europe and his work may be found in numerous public and private collections including the Mulhouse Museum in Naples (Horloge de San Eligio). As a native of the Western Italian coast, Oscar Ricciardi’s work includes many sun-drenched landscapes. We are pleased to offer this fresh and lyrical view of the Amalfi Coast, a scene filled with light and drama that shows both the artists's roots in tradition together with a distinctly Modernist sensibility.
