Lithograph on Paper
18¾ x 18⅞ Inches
Signed Lower Right, "Andy Warhol"
This iconic image of Elizabeth Taylor was created by Warhol from a 1960 publicity still issued for the film, Butterfield 8. This example is taken from the poster for the 1969 Warhol exhibition at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in West Germany. Warhol was fascinated with the tabloid glamour and social prestige of the young actress. He took a recurrent interest in both Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, whose personalities and era he immortalized in his lithographed portraits.
