A student of the Janis Rozentals Art School of Riga from 1973 - 1980 and the Painting Department at the Latvian Academy of Arts from 1980 - 1986, Kristaps Zarins studied under Professor Imants Vecozols. Studying abroad in Paris, Zarins continued his education at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beux-Arts, under Professor Gino Silvestri and at the Universite de Paris I-Pantheon Sorbonne where he studied plastic arts. After attaining his Master of Fine Arts in 1992, Zarins became a Professor at the Latvian Academy of Arts in 1994 and then Vice-rector in 2007. Zarins has exhibited widely and with success and is the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. He held more than 20 solo exhibitions since 1979 and participated in group exhibitions all over the world including Lithuania, Russia, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Austria and the Netherlands. A member of the Artists' Union of Latvia since 1987, Zarins was also a member of the B - 13 Association for the whole of its existence from 1993 to 2000, where he participated regularly. In 2004 he was awarded by Italian president Cavalierre in order of 'The Merit of the Republic'. Several monumental paintings have been credited to Zarins in Latvia and beyond its borders, including Paris, West Germany, and Riga. His works are found in the collections of the Artists' Union of Latvia and Russian Art Fund, Pharmaceuticals Company in Stockholm and Norrkoping Art Museum in Sweden, as well as in private collections in Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Germany, France, Denmark, Great Britain, and Sweden.
