Born in Mexico, Celia Michelena moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1920s where she met and married her Spanish husband. She remained in the San Francisco area for the rest of her life, painting actively from the 1940's through the 1970's. Michelena exhibited widely and with success including at San Francisco's De Young Memorial Museum and at the Santa Cruz Art League. She was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards and a member of both the Society of Western Artists and the Santa Cruz Art League.
