A vibrant and light-filled still-life by this well-listed Danish Modernist and disciple of Morisot and Vuillard. Poul Nielsen first studied painting at the Freiberg Technical School and, after the war, at the Danish Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He subsequently painted and studied throughout Europe and, later, as his palette continued to lighten, spent more time in Egypt and Greece. Nielsen exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards. His works are held in private and public collections including the permanent collections of the Schlyters Kunstsammlung ('Fresco', 1946) and the Oddsherreds Art Museum ('Afternoon in Antibes' and 'Portrait of the Painter, Ole Finding'), among others.
