Born in Freiberg in 1913, this notable Danish Modernist first studied in Copenhagen and, subsequently, in Paris where he lived from 1948-1964. Olsen exhibited widely and with success including at the Salon d'Automne, Paris (1950-61); Salon de Mai, Paris (1950-64); Salon de Jeunes Peintres, Nice (1951); Mad. della Gazetta del Popolo, Turin (1952) and at Bernheim Jeune, Paris (1953) among others. He was the recipient of numerous prizes, honors and juried awards including the Prix ​​d'Honneur, Nice (1951) and the Danish Kunstfonds (1972). Gudmund Olsen's work is held in the permanent collections of international museums including the Musee d'Art Modern de la Ville de Paris and the Silkeborg Kunstmuseum.
