Painted by Ruth Townsend Whitaker (American, 1887-1937), a San Diego artist and dated 1930. Additionally titled "Beneath the Pepper Trees" on original Provincetown Art Association exhibition label verso. This rare California Modernist is well-listed in both 'Who Was Who in American Art' and 'Hughes Dictionary of Artists in California, 1786-1940'. Size with frame:17 1/2 by 23 1/2 inches.
